Resiliency

Ensuring the system is safe and reliable is critical to ensure our customers get where they need to go in a timely manner.

DART will make improvements to enhance the resiliency of our light rail network operations during extreme weather events. These events can hinder travel by impacting the train’s catenary system (overhead wires), better known as its power supply. Freezing rain and ice forming on the wires can cause delays all over the system as crews have to manually remove the ice buildup — which means the trains must stop.

Just like cold weather, extreme heat can also hinder operations. During Texas summers, the catenary system can sag, causing delays as the wires need to maintain a certain amount of tension for the trains to run properly. DART will replace the current counterweight system with automatic tensioners to ensure the right amount of tension is maintained.

Better resiliency means on-time trains that get you where you want to go when you need to be there.

We are making strategic investments to transform DART into a cleaner, safer, more modern transit system for you. These investments in our network and assets will improve reliability and the customer journey for the next several decades.
