DART will replace the oldest light-rail vehicles (LRVs) that helped launch legacy rail service in the 1990s with new, modern vehicles. The vehicles will feature improved amenities to enhance the customer experience and provide a safer and more reliable ride.
As with other components of the Transform program, DART customers were surveyed to better understand what they would like to see in the new vehicles and encourage them to ride the light-rail system more frequently. Amenities suggested by customers that will be included in the new vehicles include:
• Better communications system
• CCTV/security cameras
• Expanded ADA spaces
• New display monitors
• Vinyl seating
Although DART is in the design phase of the new LRVs, riders can expect to see new train vehicles in the near future. As the new train vehicles are added to the fleet, the older vehicles will be decommissioned.
